We’ve been together for almost two years. Yes, two long years. I first met him when I was off to Boracay for a planning session with my fellow Leads. At first I was quite hesitant to give in ~ but the persuasion of my dear Gracita won! He was simply gorgeous, not to mention that we instantly “clicked” the minute I got hold of him.
And yes, Boracay’s not the only destination he accompanied me to (he was actually there with me the three times I visited the Philippines’ topmost beach island!). He also joined me in Tagaytay when me and my two best friends, Yeth and Jean trailed the Taal Volcano crater one summer day. He also joined me in Palawan, in Baguio, in Subic and in Negros. And of course, he’s been with me daily ~ from the moment I wake up till the very last minute that I was off to bed. Truly, he’s such a dear and constant companion.
But sadly, he gave up last Sunday. While I was preparing for another date with him, I realized he can’t go with me anymore. I didn’t see it coming ~ all the while I thought he’s still in good shape. He didn’t even show any sign of giving up prior to that moment when he “died”. The instant his death hit me, I was completely silent. I don’t know what the feeling was during that very moment. But I know that there’s no other way but to accept the reality that his last day has come. And that I must get a new companion ~ to the many more trips that I’ll have soon, to the many roads I will take in the near future.
And through this entry, I am paying him my last respect. Goodbye, Andrei! Goodbye my Havainas slippers! I will surely miss you.
(This is not an original idea actually. I got this one from a former colleague, Cybil since she also wrote an adieu note to her flip-flops when hers got torn also. Sorry for being a copycat.)
